Fire Safety Talk Today

Today we had a visit from Firefighter J who taught us 5 very important things about staying safe in a fire:

  • Girls and Boys can be firefighters and police officers
  • Firefighters are friends to us 
  • Call 911 whenever you need help
  • When you see a fire....get out and stay out
  • Don't hide during a fire or be afraid of what a firefighter looks like in full gear and a breathing mask
And he also reinforced to always wear a helmet when on a bike, trike, scooter, hoverboard or anything else.

On The Last Day of School

No backpacks or lunchboxes are allowed for the last day of school. We will send home all paperwork on Monday and Tuesday so please clean out your child's binder each day. If you child is bringing a lunch on Wednesday, please make it a sack lunch. (And see below for more lunch details.) Kindergarten through 2nd grade awards day will be Wednesday, May 22nd at 9:30. Every child in our class has earned at least one award, so we hope you will all be there to see them receive it. Please plan on arriving early as parking will most likely be an issue that day. After the ceremony, we will have a class picnic on the back playground. Please let us know if you intend to bring a lunch in for your child that day or have them purchase one from the cafeteria. Addison has a last day tradition of honoring the fifth grade graduates with a walk of honor and then giving a big fun send off to the buses. Pumpkin Treats We Sampled This Week

Kindergator Update 9.7

Happy September! We have been working hard to stretch our brains like muscled this week in kindergarten. Here are some highlights from the week: Reading: We worked hard in connecting illustrations to the stories we were reading and trying to interpret what they depict. We also began working in some of our reading groups on looking for tricks before trying to sound out words we don't know. We classify the reading tricks into 7 categories: 1. Letters that work together to make one sound 2. Letters that change their sound 3. Weird "O's" 4. Bossy R 5. Bully E 5. Two Vowels that go Walking Right now we are just working on getting the children to stop and say, "I need to look for the tricks!" before sounding the word out. We will be focusing on teaching each trick individually throughout the year. Math: We began our unit on squares and defining what makes a square a square.
