Kindergator Update 8.24

Kindergator Update 8.16.19 Marvelous! Magical! Magnificent! This week in kindergarten was all about the “m” sound for sure! Reading: We began exploring the difference between fake fiction and real reading (non-fiction). We examined lots of non-fiction books about alligators to notice the photographs (and not illustrations), captions, maps and diagrams. We learned a lot about alligators too. The best misconception we cleared up…..they are not called crocogators!!!! We learned lots of “m” words, and read books like The Big Cat (We hope they read that to you at home too.) We have been working on sight words lots this week in centers too. Math: We continued working on teen numbers and contrasted them with -ty numbers (as in 13 versus 30). F versus TH

Hi Kindergator Parents! As we are working on counting out loud to 50 we have begun to notice that many, many of our kiddos are confusing the sound of "f" versus the sound of "th." This can cause some confused counting as "thirteen" turns into "firteen" and then they skip fourteen altogether. We are working hard to over emphasize putting our tongues out between our teeth for "th" words. Please help us, if you can, by noticing if your child is pronouncing these sounds correctly and trying to help them work on mastering the difference between the two sounds when they count or speak. Sometimes practicing in front of the mirror is a powerful and fun way to help them see the difference!

Math Workbooks in Backpack

We sent home 2 math workbooks with your child. These can stay at home for your own use. Should you wish for your child to do any extra practice, keep busy in the car or review any skills they are struggling with, feel free to use them at your discretion.
