Kindergator Update 9.7
Happy September! We have been working hard to stretch our brains like muscled this week in kindergarten. Here are some highlights from the week: Reading: We worked hard in connecting illustrations to the stories we were reading and trying to interpret what they depict. We also began working in some of our reading groups on looking for tricks before trying to sound out words we don't know. We classify the reading tricks into 7 categories: 1. Letters that work together to make one sound 2. Letters that change their sound 3. Weird "O's" 4. Bossy R 5. Bully E 5. Two Vowels that go Walking Right now we are just working on getting the children to stop and say, "I need to look for the tricks!" before sounding the word out. We will be focusing on teaching each trick individually throughout the year. Math: We began our unit on squares and defining what makes a square a square.
