On The Last Day of School

No backpacks or lunchboxes are allowed for the last day of school. We will send home all paperwork on Monday and Tuesday so please clean out your child's binder each day. If you child is bringing a lunch on Wednesday, please make it a sack lunch. (And see below for more lunch details.)

Kindergarten through 2nd grade awards day will be Wednesday, May 22nd at 9:30. Every child in our class has earned at least one award, so we hope you will all be there to see them receive it. Please plan on arriving early as parking will most likely be an issue that day. After the ceremony, we will have a class picnic on the back playground. Please let us know if you intend to bring a lunch in for your child that day or have them purchase one from the cafeteria.

Addison has a last day tradition of honoring the fifth grade graduates with a walk of honor and then giving a big fun send off to the buses. Please consider having your child stay for the entire day Wednesday and /or riding the buses home if possible.

KIndergator Update 9.14

I am watching a 6 year old jump off a high diving board here at Georgia Tech as I type this. There is so much excitement and fear at the same time in her eyes as she gets ready to jump. It reminds me of how our kiddos look right before they sound out a big word in class. It is such fun to watch. Here are some things we worked on this week: Reading: We continued blending sounds together in guided reading groups. We began introducing the “letters that work together to make one sound” trick with blends like (sw, sn, st, sp). We also began our study of the parts of a story by discussing characters. Did you know anything can me a character if you write a story about it? We read about a blue dot as a character and a chameleon. We also reviewed th difference between real reading and fake fiction through our topic of chameleons this week. Math: We finished naming all the 2d shapes and describing them.
