About Valentine's Day





          Valentine’s Day is quickly approaching.  Our class will exchange valentines on Thursday the 14th.  If your child wishes to give valentines to his/her classmates, please read the following guidelines: 

1.     Please send your child to school that day with a decorated box or bag to bring home their valentines in.

2.     We will be exchanging valentines first thing in the morning (before 8:00am) so please ensure your child is on time to school on the 14th.

3.    Be sure that your child writes his/her name on every valentine he/she is giving away.  Otherwise, the other students won’t know who gave it to them. 

4.    Please use the class list attached to this letter to locate the names of your child’s classmates. Please encourage your child to use capital letters to begin each name.  We ask that you include all students so that nobody feels left out.

5.    There is no need to include valentines for the teachers. We feel very loved already!

6.    This is a wonderful project for your child to do with your help.  It is too overwhelming to do in one night and the results will probably be sloppy and you will have a frustrated child if you try this.  I suggest doing about 4 valentines each evening.  This way your child can take their time and do a quality job.  It will be much more enjoyable for all involved.

KIndergator Update 9.14

I am watching a 6 year old jump off a high diving board here at Georgia Tech as I type this. There is so much excitement and fear at the same time in her eyes as she gets ready to jump. It reminds me of how our kiddos look right before they sound out a big word in class. It is such fun to watch. Here are some things we worked on this week: Reading: We continued blending sounds together in guided reading groups. We began introducing the “letters that work together to make one sound” trick with blends like (sw, sn, st, sp). We also began our study of the parts of a story by discussing characters. Did you know anything can me a character if you write a story about it? We read about a blue dot as a character and a chameleon. We also reviewed th difference between real reading and fake fiction through our topic of chameleons this week. Math: We finished naming all the 2d shapes and describing them.
