Kindergator Update 12.6.19 Wow have we had fun hearing about your Thanksgiving and your family’s traditions. We are picking out which houses we are planning to go to next year for dinner because all your food photos look amazing. I truly thought I did a good job on the slightly blackened turkey I made this year until I saw Daniel’s and how beautifully decorated it was. Reading: We continued our discussion on main idea and details while learning about the Bald Eagle, an American symbol. We used photographs as our source for gathering information and tried to pull as much information from each source as we could. We played games in class where each child had a main idea or detail and had to link up with others who they connected to. It was really tough for them, at first, but is getting a bit easier each time we play. Math : We continued with our measurement unit and studied capacity, temperature and began time. Happy Thanksgiving! We hope you have a great week off with lots to be thankful for! Reading: We continued our discussion on main idea and details while learning about Thanksgiving and turkeys. We learned about how the first Thanksgiving occurred, how it was different in the time of the Pilgrims and Native Americans and how it was almost lost until a woman named Sarah Hale convinced Abraham Lincoln to make it a national holiday. We hope your kiddos share off all they learned at the dinner table this week. Please remember to work on the Thanksgiving project that was sent home earlier in the week. Math : We moved further into measurement working on measuring weight. We discussed vocabulary like heavy, light, weight and scales. We played with balance scales and even balanced bunnies. A copy of what the project entails is below: My Thanksgiving Customs Project One of our social studies standards asks the students to “describe the diversity of American culture by explaining the customs and celebrations of various families and communities.” In order to help students reach this standard we are asking each child to complete a “My Thanksgiving Customs” Project with their families. For this project, your child will be asked to draw, take photographs or cut out pictures showing how your family celebrates Thanksgiving. Brrrr…..cold start to the week! We even had to do indoor recess a couple of days. Though our topic this week was hibernation, the kids were wide awake and showing off all they can do in class. Reading: We continued our discussion on main idea and details through the topic of hibernation. We consulted multiple sources to find as many details as possible and figured out it takes more than one source to get all the important information. Fact they seemed to like the most???? Hibernating animals do not go potty while they hibernate. Math : We reviewed classifying rules and then began diving into our measurement unit. We are starting with length and how we measure it! Writing: We focused on writing a question correctly as we played the, “You Can Get What You Want Game.” If students wrote a question asking us for something with correctly capitalization and a question mark, they were eligible to get what they asked for from us.
