On The Last Day of School

No backpacks or lunchboxes are allowed for the last day of school. We will send home all paperwork on Monday and Tuesday so please clean out your child's binder each day. If you child is bringing a lunch on Wednesday, please make it a sack lunch. (And see below for more lunch details.) Kindergarten through 2nd grade awards day will be Wednesday, May 22nd at 9:30. Every child in our class has earned at least one award, so we hope you will all be there to see them receive it. Please plan on arriving early as parking will most likely be an issue that day. After the ceremony, we will have a class picnic on the back playground. Please let us know if you intend to bring a lunch in for your child that day or have them purchase one from the cafeteria. Addison has a last day tradition of honoring the fifth grade graduates with a walk of honor and then giving a big fun send off to the buses. Please consider having your child stay for the entire day Wednesday and /or riding the buses home...

Kindergator Update 11.16.18

Happy Thanksgiving! I hope this week is relaxing and restful and full of carbs. Speaking of full…here is what filled our brains with this week in kindergarten: Reading: We used our “main idea and details” focus to learn more about Thanksgiving. We read stories about the first Thanksgiving, what life was like as a pilgrim boy and girl, how Thanksgiving became an official holiday (thank you Sarah Hale and Abraham Lincoln) and what some common Thanksgiving traditions are today. What a surprise it was to learn that Sarah Hale worked for 38 years and wrote hundreds of letters to 4 different presidents until finally Abraham Lincoln agreed to declare Thanksgiving a national holiday. She really was a hero for sure. By the way… many of the kids said they had never tried cranberry sauce or seen the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade so those might be something fun to try this year. Math: We began our unit on measurable attributes. That means we began looking at the parts of things that w...

Kindergator Update 10.25.19

Kindergator Update 10.25.19 It was wonderful to meet with everyone this week and last week at conferences. I learned so much more about the kiddos as we talked. Thank you for taking time to come in! As always, if you have questions that have come up since our conference, please let us know. Reading: We worked on noticing and sounding out word endings. That means -ing, -ly, -ed, -s or -es. We listened for words with endings in the spooky fiction stories we read in class and then classified them into groups based on what ending they had. We spent lots of time on the tricky -ed ending that can make the sound “d” or “t” or “ed.” Math :   We took a break from classifying lessons and moved onto comparing numbers. We worked on vocabulary like more, greater, bigger and less, lesser, smaller. We learned how to use “the buddy system” to compare numbers by lining dots up and seeing which ones have buddies and which ones are extras. Writing: We are still working on great cha...
