Kindergator Update 4.20.19

We had a chance to meet our future kindergarteners today at our kindergarten camp. I cannot believe it has been a year since you guys and your little ones walked through on your first visit to Addison. They have grown so much!

Reading: We worked on researching about spiders this week. We compared and contrasted fiction versus non-fiction books, then did the same for two non-fiction texts about spiders. We played games where each child had either a main idea paper or details paper and they had to work to find all the papers that fit together around the same main idea. These kids LOVE non-fiction by the way and some have learned to love spiders too!

We also painted pattern papers to use for our Eric Carle author study unit.  Mrs. Walkup would like you to know that your children did the best pattern painting of any class we ever had!

Science: We compared and contrasted animals. We reviewed animal grouping and the different attributes we can look at when discussing animals.

Writing: We published our frog fake fiction pieces and began working on our frog non-fiction pieces.  We have only an opinion piece left about whether or not they would kiss a frog.

Social studies: We discussed what it means to be a good citizen by showing positive character traits. They had lots of great traits to talk about and listed them confidently during our lesson.

BIG THINGS:
We still have spots available for our Parent Pedagogy Week. We would love to have all of our families volunteer and fill up our week with fun. Please see the current schedule below.

We have some big events coming you might want to plan for…

The Gator Gala, our celebration of leadership and learning is May 9th. Our kindergarteners usually start the show with the Pledge of Allegiance and Star Spangled Banner. Then families can complete different activities around the school as they learn about the wonderful things we did this year to promote leadership.

Field Day is currently scheduled for May 13th. That is a whole day outside full of fun, games and water sports. More information will come out about this soon, but it is definitely a day the kids won’t want to miss so please do not schedule any appointments for them that day.

May 22nd is our awards day. This is the last day of school and it is where students receive any academic awards they have earned. We hope to see everyone there to celebrate and say good bye for the summer.

Thank you to:
Reese for my new favorite joke, “What did the janitor say when he jumped out of the closet?...........Supplies!”

Thank you to her parents for volunteering for Parent Pedagogy week too!

Mrs. Moran also for volunteering to come in and teach a lesson relating to our brains.

Elle for teaching her parents our new dance move “the swim.” And thank you to her parents for volunteering to come in and teach too!

PTA for providing us with a big storage box full of toys for the recess grounds. The box is permanent and all the students now have new, fun toys to play with that won’t get lost.

Everyone who sent in Sharpen the Saw pictures; Landon, Jackson, Reese, Zeb, Harper H and Elle.

Olivia, Landon, Jaleigh, Reese, and Arnold who wrote great stories this week with very creative resolutions!

Harper H. who led kindergarten in the Pledge of Allegiance for kindergarten camp this week!

Sarah Kate for deciding she almost likes spiders now.

Jackson, Ava, Arnold, Zeb and Grant for creating the most interesting marble tracks with our new game.
