Kindergator Update 3.30.19

Happy Spring Break Ya’all!!! We squeezed lots o’ leanrin’ into this pre-vacation week.

Reading: We continued our unit on the 3C’s…character traits, conflicts and connections. We read a few funny Frog and Toad stories to help us identify all of those elementa. We also delved deeper into our frog and shark research. We had a great question from one of our students this week. “If sharks don’t have bones why are they in the fish /vertebrate group?” Our minds were completely blown and we had to look up the answer to that one with some research of our own.

Math: We worked on positional words with a positional word hide and seek game. This is an easy game to play at home. Have the kids choose a positional word like above, under, beneath, between and then they hide an object in a place that matches that word then give clues to their family on how to find it using positional clues like, “it is above the stove and in a cabinet.”

Science: We worked on how scientists classify animals as backbone (vertebrate) or non-backbone (invertebrate) and then classify the backbone group further into mammals, fish, birds etc. Lots of great questions during this activity as well!

Writing: We  explored different conflicts stories can have like one character bothering another, or nature causing problems or even machines. We had lots of idea sharing to expand the types of conflicts we can add to our stories.

Vocabulary: mammal, reptile, amphibian, cartilage, vertebrate, invertebrate, absorb
