Kindergator Update 2.29.20

Mr. Webster set the bar high with his movie quote opener last week. Hmmmm..... How about, “Don’t think about it as work. The whole point is just to enjoy yourself.” Because enjoy ourselves is what we did this week. STEM, Opinion Writing, Frogs. What a week! Reading: We are continuing to develop our independent reading skills and making sure we reread to give ourselves a chance to think about the meaning of what the words tell us. We are working on vowels a lot. As we introduce long vowel sounds and how they are made, you might notice your child forgets that some words have the short vowel sound. That’s a natural hiccup in the process. We make sure we ask them to think about why / when vowels switch their sound as a reminder. And... we wanted to make sure your child is helping read your nighttime stories each day in between listening to them. They are ready and that makes for great practice! Fire Safety Talk Today

Image
Today we had a visit from Firefighter J who taught us 5 very important things about staying safe in a fire: Girls and Boys can be firefighters and police officers Firefighters are friends to us  Call 911 whenever you need help When you see a fire....get out and stay out Don't hide during a fire or be afraid of what a firefighter looks like in full gear and a breathing mask And he also reinforced to always wear a helmet when on a bike, trike, scooter, hoverboard or anything else.  Here are some pictures from the visit......

“Good morning, and in case I don’t see ya, good afternoon, good evening, and good night!” We had a wonderful week before Winter break. We hope everyone stays safe and dry! Don’t forget to practice those sight words every once and while! Reading: This week we started to put together all of our tricks with labeling each trick in our reading groups. Everyone did a wonderful job finding each trick and should start to see what tricks they need to work on. Mr. Webster had a very exciting science/reading lesson where the students learned the ten rules to finding their special rock. You might have noticed they got to keep their special rocks and they came home with a description of them. Math : This week in math we started to look at “Part-Part-Whole” diagrams and how we can use them to help with our addition and subtraction skills. The students also worked on checking the correctness of number sentences in their math centers this week. Students are working on reading number sente...
