Kindergator Update 11.8.19
Kindergator Update 11.8.19
Can you believe it is already November?!?! This year is
flying by and we still have so much to learn. We have seen some super growth in
our kiddos this week and we hope you are seeing it at home too. Here are some
of the things we worked on this week:
Reading: We worked on our social studies topic:
Veteran’s Day. Since the holiday is Monday we read about the branches of the
military, who Veteran’s are, details about the holiday itself and why we
consider our military personnel heroes. We shared lots of personal connections
as 3 of my brothers were in the Army, my dad was in the Air Force, Mrs.
Walkup’s cousin is in the Navy, Mrs. Ricci’s dad was national guard and grandfather
served in WW2 and our helper, Mrs. Matacotta has a retired marine husband and
current marine son. SO we definitely take this topic pretty seriously! We also
began our discussion on what it means to be the main idea of a text and what we
call the things that tell us more about the main idea.
Math: We continued comparing numbers by using
number-lines that count by tens to compare bigger numbers and we went back to
review our classifying skills to make sure we are using only one rule to sort
by and brainstorming lots of choices before we pick our groups to see which way
is best. We will be doing some assessment next week and see how we are doing
officially in both skills!
Writing: We began looking at the types of ending
marks a sentence can have and the different kinds of sentences we make. We
discussed what a question is, what words it could and could not start with and
played the question game to see how many questions we could come up with versus
an opponent.
Vocabulary: math drawings, altogether, more, veteran,
military, country
Big Things:
We have almost all our students counting to 100 by 1s. We
just need one more to make it a whole class!!!!! Most of our kiddos have gone
past counting by 1s onto 10s, 5s, 25s, and some have completed backwards by 1s,
backwards by 10s and by 5s. Ask your child what they are counting by this week
and let them show off a little for you.
Thank You To:
- Will for an amazing letter transformation from a B into a snorkel.
- Mila for being the first student to ever beat me at the question game!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- Lennox and Mason who counted to 100 by ones this week.
- Eldabelle who was voted our Leader of the Month by her classmates this week.
- Hadley, and Daniel for completing all the counting by challenges we gave them. They are truly counting experts.
- Dillan for an amazing letter transformation from letter B into a rock and roll concert speaker.
- Carter and Ethan for doing great spelling on our “b” words today like balloons, buffalo and bananas.
